On February 15th, 2015, just before Mahashivratri, The Hindu Temple and Cultural Center, Bothell, Washington was vandalized by miscreants. A Swastika was sprayed and “Get Out” was painted on the walls of the temple in the Seattle Metropolitan area.

Derogatory graffiti targeting the Hindu culture was found spray-painted on the back of a 23100 block Glenorchy Court home in Ashburn, Virginia on January 10th, 2015 at about 1 p.m.

In September 2014, Vidya Nair was walking along an Ashburn trail in the Brambleton community of Loudon county in Virginia, with her kids this week when she noticed hateful graffiti, reading, "No Hindus Allowed." Since July, five similar incidents of vandalism in Ashburn’s Brambleton community have been reported to authorities and the Brambleton homeowner’s association — in the areas of Northstar Boulevard at Amberg Grove Terrace, Morning Walk Drive at Winter Haven Drive, and Ryan Road at Forest Manor Drive. In October, six more areas in Brambleton were targeted.

Early Saturday morning, August 2nd, 2014, Vishwa Bhavan Mandir, a Hindu temple in Monroe, Georgia, discovered their building and the statue of Lord Siva (murti) was vandalized. The building and the statue were defaced with black spray paint with, profane and damaging graffiti. The phone lines were cut and graffiti wits hate messages were written on them. Spray-painted messages included "ha ha" and "LOL”.

A social problem which has nothing to do with religion is turned into a religious issue by claiming that Hindus openly defecate more than Muslims due to religious beliefs. A further comparison is made to say because of the discrimination practiced by Hindus, Muslims are made to live separately which at least saves them from interacting with Hindus who are more prone to diseases due to their low hygiene.

On May 3, 2013, Melshizedek Reyes, 25, of Volusia County, and Peter Bergman, 54, enters the Hare Krishna temple in Alachua, Florida, while the prayer service is going on. The two men throw the bleach around the temple and into a decorative fountain in front of the building. They also knock over the shelves holding shoes, and break vases. They take books from the temple and throw them into the fountain, tainted with bleach, destroying the volumes. The men also go into the restroom, defecating on the floor and clogging the toilets.

On December 27, 2012, Erika Menendez, a 31-year-old Queens woman, pushed Sunando Sen to death in front of a subway train. 'I hate Hindus and Muslims,' Erika Menendez told authorities

On January 1, 2012, Ray Lazier Lengend, from Queens, NY, went on a firebombing spree that included a private residence that housed a Hindu temple, among places of worship of other faiths. Lengend, who is originally from Guyana, told investigators he had "personal grievances with each location," police told Reuters.

Afshan Azad, who appeared in four Potter movies as Harry’s classmate Padma Patil, was attacked and assaulted on May 21, 2010 by her own father and brother in Manchester, England, because her family, who are Muslim, did not approve of her relationship with a Hindu man, according to a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service. Abdul Azad, 54, and his son Ashraf, 28, threatened to kill the actress. In addition, her brother has also been charged with assault, said a spokesman for prosecutors.

Reza Pirbhai, Associate Professor of South-Asian Studies at Louisiana State University, in April 2008 piece in the Cambridge (UK) periodical, Modern Intellectual History (vol.5.1, 2008, p.27-53), titled “Demons in Hindutva. Writing a Theology for Hindu Nationalism” writes that ‘reading between the lines’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s modern Hindutva politics, he can see that the European Orientalists had invented Hinduism. First the Europeans constructed this ideology with Brahmins as conspirators, and then Vivekananda adopted it, followed by the further developments of Gandhi, Aurobindo, and others. He concludes that Hinduism is one of the youngest religions in the world, being a nineteenth-century production of dubious parentage. Pirbhai reads through Westernized filters and writes with great certainty: “The doctrines and practices presented as ‘Hinduism” by colonial-era Hindu intellectuals and their postcolonial heirs did not exist prior to the British colonization of South Asia. On August 4, 2007, the same group of teenagers who conducted the July attack on the Sri Lakshmi temple in Ashland, Massachusetts, carried out another attack, throwing Molotov cocktails on the premises of the temple to burn. This act, along with the previous attack, resulted in damages of more than $12,000 to the temple’s property.

On May 21, 2007 at Anaheim, near Los Angeles, Iftekhar Murtaza, a Bangladeshi national, killed Jayprakash Dhanak, 56, and his daughter Karishma Dhanak, 20 and set their house on fire. The victims were stabbed, strangled and burned. Jayprakash’s wife, Leela Dhanak was beaten severely and left to die on the neighbour’s lawn. Iftekhar Murtaza was the ex-boyfriend of Jayprakash’s daughter and Karishma’s younger sister, Shayona Dhanak, 18. According to court documents, Iftekhar was upset with Dhanak family for discontinuing the relationship due to different religious backgrounds.

On April 6, 2006, Paul Spakousky and Tyler Toumie vandalize Maple Grove Hindu Mandir in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The vandals kicked-in temple doors, smashed windows and destroyed marble and granite figures representing Hindu deities. The act caused $200,000 in damage. "When we saw the decapitated and dismembered sculptures …; our feelings were akin to seeing the shattered bodies of brutally murdered family members," said Sane, chairman of the temple's board of trustees.

In a popular 23-second clip, Barkha Dutt describes:"Today hapless victims, they were once the privileged elites of the valley. They may have been a minority, but at that time they had monopolized government jobs, plum postings, and other such social benefits. In fact, the sharp economic disparity between the Pandits and the poor Muslim majority was one of the earliest reasons for popular discontent in the state" Websites like Alt News unsuccessfully tried to save Barkha Dutt by saying she has been quoted out of context as she was trying to give the contrast between the lives of Pandits before and after exodus.
